Hasan Ali Doesn't Need PAS To Pursue His Struggle

Should former Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Ali, who was expelled from the party on Sunday for breaching party discipline, appeal for his reinstatement?

Despite having 30 days to appeal against his dismissal, many feel it would be a sheer waste of time for the Selangor state executive councillor who holds the portfolio for Islamic Affairs, Malay Custom, Infrastructure and Public Amenities to do so.

Highly regarded by former PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa for championing Islam in the face of challenges, Hasan does not require PAS to pursue his struggle in upholding Islam, championing the Malays and protecting the Malay Rulers.

The firebrand Hasan also sidestepped his candidacy in the general election as a small matter.

"What matters most is upholding Islam as it transcends the boundaries of Selangor, Perak, Malaysia. It is borderless. If the (sacking) makes me feel sad it is because my struggle to uphold Islam is being belittled," he told reporters recently.

"In the struggle to uphold Islam, champion the Malays and protect the Malay rulers, it is necessary for Hasan to join hands with Muslims at large. They need not be in PAS as PAS is not the sole Islamic community," said an observer, who identified himself only as Hamed, 64, from Shah Alam.

In fact, Hasan could pursue his struggle through other platforms, including non-governmental organisations like the Himpunan Sejuta Umat Selamatkan Akidah (Himpun) or Perkasa, which shared his ideals, said Hamed.

Malay right wing group, Perkasa has also asked him to join it.

Hamed, a trader who does not belong to any political party, believes that the sacking of Hasan by PAS was unwarranted as the party denied him an opportunity to defend himself.

Maybe the sacking was not solely directed at Hasan but also served as a stern warning to other PAS leaders and members to toe the line, added Hamed.

With vast experience as a former government officer, a lawmaker, a politician and a motivational speaker behind him, Hasan is in good stead to pursue his ideals and cause trouble to PAS.
